Unanswered questions after Delta plane crash |
Investigators are working to identify why a Delta Air Lines regional jet coming from Minnesota flipped on its roof during landing at Canada's Toronto Pearson International Airport. There were no deaths, but 21 of the 80 people on board the flight were injured. |
Canada leading investigation: The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said that the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the probe into the cause of the crash. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board will also be involved, with a team of U.S. investigators assisting their Canadian counterparts. 👉 What we know so far. | Passengers leave a Delta Air Lines jet after it crashed on landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada on Tuesday in a still image from video. Peter Koukov, via REUTERS | President Donald Trump brought top ally Elon Musk, the world's richest man, into his administration to lead an agency tasked with dismantling the federal bureaucracy. But the White House is now changing its tune. Musk is a "senior advisor to the president" and not in charge of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, the Trump administration said in a court filing. The filing said that Musk has "no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself." |
Why does it matter? The Trump administration is facing a lawsuit by several Democratic states that are trying to block Musk and DOGE from accessing government systems. The states are arguing that Musk's enormous power violates the Constitution's "Appointments Clause," which requires Congress to approve officers in the executive branch. The White House is saying Musk does not lead the agency. 👉 What Trump said Musk's role is. | Elon Musk speaks next to U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., February 11, 2025. Power struggle in the Big Apple | As pressure mounts on embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is also facing mounting calls to remove him from office. Hochul said she would meet with city leaders Tuesday to decide a "path forward" after four of Adams' top aides resigned. Adams has been under pressure to resign after his criminal indictment on corruption charges last September. Critics also say the mayor has defied longstanding city policy by cooperating with Trump's immigration crackdown in exchange for the U.S. Justice Department dropping his corruption charges. 👉 Who would be acting mayor? | New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrives for Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch's "State of the NYPD" address Jan. 30. Keep your furry friends safe. Two states, Oregon and Washington, are urging pet owners to stop feeding cats Wild Coast Raw pet food if they have certain lot numbers. Two cats became severely ill with bird flu after eating the same brand of raw pet food and were euthanized. |
Bird flu outbreak: The warning comes amid a bird flu outbreak that has killed millions of chickens and turkeys in recent months. Domestic cats have been known to carry bird flu since 2004, and studies have found that raw pet foods are far more likely to carry disease. 👉 What to know about the recall. |
