The Senate is on a voting spree to get Trump's mega bill passed. An ambush attack killed two Idaho firefighters. And there was a dramatic rescue after child fell overboard on a Disney Cruise. |
Vote-a-rama in the Senate | The Senate has been voting since early Monday morning on President Donald Trump's sweeping bill on tax cuts, Medicaid and border security, after a marathon weekend of caustic debate and political maneuvering. Republicans, who hold a 53-47 majority, face united Democratic opposition − and the defection of at least two of their own members. If the Senate approves the bill, it heads back to the House, where votes are scheduled to begin Wednesday morning to reconcile it with the Senate version and send it to Trump for his signature. 👉 Follow Monday's updates from the Senate floor. | Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) speaks to reporters as returns to his office from the Senate Chamber at the U.S. Capitol Building on Monday. Two firefighters killed in Idaho ambush | An Idaho firefighter was battling for his life Monday as authorities tried to determine why a sniper ignited a blaze on Sunday before ambushing and fatally shooting two responding firefighters. The sniper was found dead following a shootout with police, Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said. Norris said law enforcement received a 911 call Sunday afternoon about a brush fire and were notified a short time later that firefighters were taking gunfire. "This was a total ambush," Norris said at a briefing late Sunday. "These firefighters did not have a chance." Police identified the shooter, but not a possible motive. | A Kootenai County Sheriff's vehicle travels near an area where multiple firefighters were attacked when responding to a fire outside Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Sunday. Diddy's sex-crimes case goes to jury |
The fate of music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is now in the hands of 12 jurors as they deliberate a verdict in his embattled criminal trial. The jury, which has heard graphic testimony on Combs' alleged abuses from over 30 witnesses, gathered again in Manhattan court on Monday after closing arguments from Combs' attorneys wrapped. |
| • | Could Diddy go to prison? Yes. If convicted on the racketeering charge against him, Combs could face life in prison. The minimum sentence for sex trafficking and for transportation to engage in prostitution is 15 years and a maximum of 10 years, respectively. And a mixed verdict could add up to a different sentence. | | • | Jury says one juror may not be able to follow instructions: The jury has already sent a note to the judge for guidance on what to do about one juror who may not be able to follow instructions about the law. The note did not elaborate on which instructions the juror could not follow. The jurors are anonymous. | | • | What happens next: The 12-member jury will deliberate until a verdict is decided. There is no timeframe for this, and any verdict must be unanimous. 👉 See Monday's live updates from the courthouse. | | Sean "Diddy" Combs passes a note to his attorney Marc Agnifilo during his sex trafficking trial in New York City on Monday, in this courtroom sketch.
