He was 8. It didn’t have to end this way.

He committed suicide. He was 8.

See something? Speak up. Thursday, an Ohio mom said no one told her 8-year-old son was assaulted in a school bathroom two days before he hung himself from his bunk bed. A police detective said security video taken inside the boy's Cincinnati elementary school shows children brutally attacked him and then beat him for five minutes while he lay unconscious. The  school says this characterization isn't entirely true and plans to release the footage. About 112 people die by suicide every day, making it the second leading cause of death among 15- to 34-year-olds. It's the  sixth-leading cause of death among 5- to 14-year-olds. Suicide is a public health concern, but it's also a preventable tragedy. The No. 1 cause of suicide is untreated depression.

Warning signs: Look for them. They include talking about wanting to die, talking about feeling hopeless and talking about unbearable pain. More on signs to look for and what to do if you see them.
Resources: If you're thinking about suicide, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255. You can also text the Crisis Text Line at 741-741 to connect with a trained crisis counselor right away.

A bit of confusion over Comey

Former FBI director James Comey released a statement, saying "miss you" but he's going to be "fine." Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe assures us that life will go on, but there are still questions about why President Trump fired Comey now and where to go from here. Thursday, Trump told NBC's Lester Holt he was  going to fire Comey regardless of the Justice Department's recommendation. That's confusing, because it contradicts the White House's assertions — and a termination letter Trump sent Comey. Following the firing fallout, the president is creating a " voter fraud" commission to put Americans at ease. If that doesn't work,  these jokes might do the trick.

Please untag me

Well, this is uncomfortable. After the White House didn't invite the media to Trump's Russian diplomat meeting yesterday, a Russian-owned news agency posted more than a dozen photos showing a beaming Trump shaking hands with  Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak. The Trump administration  likes to keep White House affairs private. So, no, they aren't smiling for this one.

Have change? I want a soda firearm from the vending machine

It might sound like an idea someone drunk or high would dream up, but vending machines that sell alcohol and marijuana are a real thing . American Green, a medical-cannabis technology company, unveiled a prototype for a vending machine that uses biometric verification technology to sell controlled and age-restricted items. Think booze, pharmaceuticals, casino chips, firearms. A user sets up an account with a government-issued ID and, when needed, a medical prescription. A scan of the account holder's finger verifies it's the right person. The finger scanner also looks at vein architecture, which is important for this morbid reason: If you cut off someone else's finger to gain access to his or her account, it won't work. Noted.

IKEA Frakta bag madness reaches a whole new level of crazy

IKEA bags have been turned into thongs, shirts, dresses, and now Reebok trainer Andrew Connor is using them as a workout tool. Sigh. Apparently, the 99-cent blue bags can be filled with books, shoes or bean bags and used as at home weights for lunges, deadlifts and push presses. What's up with the bags? After designer Balenciaga  created a $2,145 doppelgänger of IKEA's 99-cent bag, social media relentlessly trolled the designer with IKEA inspired fashions. The "Frakta Fitness" workout shows that the bag is truly versatile.
