Women killed in standoff at California veterans home

A hostage situation at the nation's largest veterans home ended fatally Friday evening as officials found three women dead plus the gunman when they entered the room where a day-long standoff had taken place . The victims were identified as executive director Christine Loeber, 48; clinical director Jennifer Golick, 42; and Jennifer Gonzales Shushereba, 32, a clinical psychologist with the San Francisco Department of Veterans Affairs Healthcare System who was also seven months pregnant. All were killed after Albert Wong, 36, barricaded himself with them inside the Veterans Home of California in Yountville, police say. For hours, authorities tried to reach Wong and end the standoff. Wong was a former patient who served in the Army.

Trump stumps for GOP candidate in Pennsylvania: 'We have to win'

President Trump hosted a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday night for a Republican congressional candidate but spent much of his time talking about his steel tariffs, his political prospects and his new North Korea diplomacy. "We have to get out and we have to win," Trump told an enthusiastic political rally in an airport hangar at the Pittsburgh airport. Trump stumped for Republican congressional candidate Rick Saccone, who faces a special election Tuesday. Throughout his speech, Trump riffed on a number of items, including  how other countries give the death penalty to drug leaders.

Warren says she isn't running for president, but there's some wiggle room in comments

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said Sunday that she's not running for president on NBC News' Meet the Press, but it wasn't exactly a full-throated denial. Warren refused to "pledge" to serve her full six years in the Senate if re-elected despite being pressed several times by Todd. "I am in this fight to retain my Senate seat in 2018. That's where I'm focused. That's where I'm going to stay focused," Warren said in the interview. "I'm not running for president." Warren's rounds of the Sunday morning talk shows did seem to suggest some higher aspirations.

Justice Department moves to make bump stocks illegal to own or sell

The Justice Department moved forward on Saturday with plans to ban bump stock devices and make them illegal to own or sell. The move comes after President Trump signed an executive order that instructed Attorney General Jeff Sessions to regulate the devices, which help speed up the pace of gunfire and allow semiautomatic guns to fire at a rate that mimics a fully automatic firearm. On Saturday, Sessions announced his office submitted a notice to the Office of Management and Budget that would clarify the definition of "machine gun" and add bump stocks to the list of devices banned. The notice is one of the first steps in banning bump stocks.

Stormy Daniels: Trump scandal is a 'double-edged sword' for career

Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who claims she had an affair with President Trump, says her newfound fame has been a "double-edged sword"  for her career. "I'm getting more dance bookings," she told CNN Friday night after her performance at the Solid Gold gentleman's club in Florida. "But because of that, it's sort of overshadowing a lot of the adult films that I'm supposed to be promoting." Daniels has been speaking out in the past few days after avoiding talking to the media amid the unfolding controversy over a payment of $130,000 in alleged hush money to her from Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen. Daniels filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Trump, saying a "hush" agreement she signed was invalid because Trump never signed it.

'Stranger Things' creators are 'deeply upset' about claims of verbal abuse on the set

Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer are responding to allegations that the set of their series is an abusive environment. The brothers at the helm of the Netflix show apologized in a joint statement. "We are deeply upset to learn that someone felt uncomfortable on our set," the statement says. "Due to the high-stress nature of production, tempers occasionally get frayed, and for that, we apologize."  The statement comes after allegations of verbal abuse posted March 8 via an unverified Instagram account, @peytonnbrown, described in her bio as a "lady grip." "I personally witnessed two men in high positions of power on that set seek out and verbally abuse multiple women," H. Peyton Brown said.
