Time hasn't 'lessened our loss'

America marked the 18th anniversary of 9/11, and water was found on another planet. Time hasn't 'lessened our loss'
America marked the 18th anniversary of 9/11, and water was found on another planet. It's Wednesday's news.

America remembers an unforgettable day of tragedy. A sixth person dies from a mysterious disease. And water is found on a potentially "habitable" planet. Here's the news to know Wednesday.

Today we remember 2,977

It's been 18 years since radical Islamic terrorists hijacked four commercial jetliners and aimed them at emblems of America, killing 2,977 people. Bells tolled across New York City, President Donald Trump spoke at the Pentagon, and moments of silence were observed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and across the nation Wednesday as America commemorated the anniversary of 9/11.  "Eighteen years have not lessened our loss," Mary Ann Marino said after reading some of the nearly 3,000 victims' names at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York, including that of her son, firefighter Kenneth Marino.

A vaping-related illness takes another life

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he is preparing to ban a "new problem" in the country: non-tobacco-flavored vaping products. Six people have died nationally of a mysterious vaping-related illness, and health officials have reported more than 450 potential cases across the nation. Though it's not known what is driving the spate of illnesses, investigators discovered a common thread in reported cases: street-purchased THC oil that contains vitamin E acetate. Monday, first lady Melania Trump expressed concern over "the growing epidemic" of e-cigarette use by children as deaths linked to a lung disease are on the rise.

The Antonio Brown situation takes a dark turn

It's safe to say Antonio Brown has become the NFL's worst nightmare for its 100th season. Brown's former trainer accused the New England Patriots wide receiver of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment in a federal lawsuit Tuesday. It's far too soon to make a judgment on the allegations; there are text messages that, if authentic, are troubling, but Brown's attorney called the allegations a "money grab" and said any sexual encounters were consensual. It will be weeks, and more likely months, before there's any resolution to the lawsuit. Which means the NFL and the Patriots are stuck with this never-ending situation.

Guys, we're moving to K2-18b 🌍

For the first time, water has been detected on another planet that could support life, a study published Wednesday says. The planet, known as K2-18b, is eight times the size of Earth and is the only planet orbiting a star outside the solar system known to have both water and habitable temperatures. And it's pretty close: The planet is only about 110 light-years away from Earth (read: sarcasm). At a temperature that's similar to that of the Earth, "this planet is the best candidate for habitability that we know of right now," said study lead author Angelos Tsiaras of University College in London.

'Baby, I've been stabbed five times'

Five people were assaulted in a "massive" stabbing at a Florida business  Wednesday. In the aftermath, frantic family members shared stories of the horror that unfolded at Dyke Industries in Tallahassee. Marquitta Campbell was on the phone with her husband, Bobby Riggins Jr., when she overheard the attacks. "The next thing I know, he said, 'Baby, I've been stabbed five times,' " Campbell said. Her husband was there for a job interview. Police say the suspect was involved in a dispute at the office before the stabbing, and co-workers fought off the knife-wielder with objects in the area.
