The Short List

Saturday, May 16

The claim: USA TODAY is regularly fact-checking coronavirus information to keep readers informed about the ongoing pandemic.

Our ruling: True.

Happy Saturday, Short List readers! Welcome to a ~ special ~ fact check edition of The Short List.

There's a lot of news circulating about the coronavirus, prompting many questions and even more rumors. Will wearing a face mask weaken your immune system? Is wearing gloves in public a bad practice? Have heroin overdoses killed more Americans than coronavirus?

No, wearing a face mask does not weaken the immune system. In fact, the CDC recommends using cloth face coverings in public.
Yes, wearing gloves in public only spreads germs. Infectious disease experts around the country agree gloves largely do more harm than good.
And due to a lack of data, it is nearly impossible to conclude the true toll of heroin overdoses and coronavirus deaths on a day-to-day basis.

That's not all! Keep separating fact from fiction with USA TODAY👇
