The Short List

Saturday, September 19

The most looked-up-to person in Washington stood at just 5-foot-1.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a legal pioneer for gender equality who became the second woman ever to serve on the nation's highest court, died Friday at age 87 due to complications from pancreatic cancer.

Ginsburg leaves behind an enormous influence on the law as the nation's preeminent litigator for women's rights, a federal appeals court judge, a Supreme Court justice for 27 years and, most recently, as the leader of the high court's liberal bloc.

In today's Short List, we look back at Ginsburg's life, full of glass-ceiling-shattering accomplishments, impassioned dissents and pop culture dominance.
