The Daily Money

Friday, December 17

Happy Friday, Daily Money readers. Jayme Deerwester back with you one last time before some holiday vacation time next week. But fear not, some Daily Money Hall of Famers will be here to keep you company.

According to our web traffic analysis, you guys either love Dave Ramsey news or you love Dave Ramsey schadenfreude. Either way, we've got a fresh dose for you. A former staffer has filed a federal lawsuit, alleging the personal finance guru required his employees to disregard COVID-19 work-from-home orders and attend in-person gatherings of more than 900 workers. They were also encouraged not to wear masks or maintain social distance.

💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY:  "When the Fed increases its interest rates, banks do, too. And when that happens, mortgage rates go up for borrowers," says Nadia Evangelou, senior economist, and director of forecasting for the National Association of Realtors (NAR), who expects mortgage rates to rise to 3.7% by the end of next year.

The upside: If inflation remains high and that translates to higher mortgage rates, it could slow the housing market and put "downward pressure" on home prices, Freddie Mac economist Leonard Kiefer tells USA TODAY housing reporter Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy
