A weekend of wild, weird weather

California had anything but normal weather. And Biden ordered a door-to-door check-in in East Palestine, Ohio. It's the biggest news you missed. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

A blizzard in Southern California? A weekend of weird weather.

Blizzards in the mountains, rain in the desert, flooding near coastal cities – and reports of a dusting of snow near the Hollywood Sign. That's just some of the bizarre weather in California that occurred during a weekend storm system that kicked off in recent days. But more bad weather was on the way. A new storm was forecast to bring rain and snow as soon as Sunday night, the National Weather Service said. The snow won't sweep down to the edge of coastal cities as it did in recent days, but this week's forecast for Los Angeles does call for high temperatures in the low 50s – about 15 degrees below normal.

What's the weather doing near you? Check out your local forecast.

First at-home combination test for COVID and flu authorized by FDA

The Food and Drug Administration has authorized the first over-the-counter at-home test that can detect and differentiate between a test result for flu and a test result for COVID-19. The Lucira COVID-19 and Flu Home Test is a single-use test that can be purchased without a prescription. A nasal swab is used as with an at-home COVID test; in 30 minutes or less, the test displays the results – positive or negative for influenza A, influenza B and COVID-19.

Biden orders door-to-door checks on residents in East Palestine

Federal employees were instructed to begin going door-to-door in East Palestine, Ohio, on Saturday to check on families affected by the toxic train derailment that has morphed into a heated political controversy. Under President Joe Biden's order, teams from the CDC, Environmental Protection Agency and Federal Emergency Management Agency visited homes beginning Saturday. Workers were instructed to ask how residents are doing, see what they need and connect them with appropriate resources from government and nonprofit organizations, the White House said.
