Tropical Storm Harold makes landfall in Texas

Tropical Storm Harold made landfall on a barrier island off Texas on Tuesday morning, bringing much-needed moisture to the drought-stricken state but also threatening tornadoes and flash flooding . Harold, dubbed "Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine" until reaching tropical storm strength early Tuesday, could slam South Texas with up to 7 inches of rain into Wednesday, said Richard Pasch, a senior meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi issued a slew of tornado warnings along the Gulf Coast and inland until early afternoon as Harold made its way west and northwest.

John Eastman, the conservative attorney who masterminded a legal strategy to attempt to overturn the 2020 election, surrendered to authorities Tuesday on charges in Georgia. He was indicted last week alongside former President Donald Trump and 17 others accused of a scheme to steal the 2020 election from President Joe Biden in the Peach State. He faces charges of conspiracy to impersonate a public officer and conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, among others.

👉 And as for Trump? He says he will surrender at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on Thursday. Here's what we know.

Show me the money. Specifically $79,000. 💰

How much are you hoping for when signing up for a new gig? Americans' salary expectations for a new job rose in July to the highest level ever recorded. What's the going rate, you ask? Nearly $79,000 . The lowest annual wage respondents would be willing to accept for a new job reached $78,645 in July, up from $72,873 in 2022 and $62,194 in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data from the New York Federal Reserve. The year-over-year increase was most pronounced for respondents older than 45, and men wanted on average $91,048 compared with women, who wanted $66,068. Wages have been a focal point in the Fed's fight against inflation.
