If the government is shuttered, does that mean we won't have to hear President Donald Trump's babbling or see his raving social media posts? ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌  ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌ ͏‌

Today's Opinions

President Donald Trump speaks in the Oval Office, on the day he signs an executive order on AI and pediatric cancer research, at the White House, Washington, D.C., U.S., September 30, 2025.

If the government is shuttered, does that mean we won't have to hear President Donald Trump's babbling or see his raving social media posts?

Linda Pryor with guest workers at Hilltop Farm WNC, where her family grows apples, corn and hay and raises beef cattle in Henderson County, North Carolina.

Your grocery store staples are at risk because of our border policy

Every year, I stand in my family's orchards, worrying if we'll have workers to pick the 6 million pounds of apples or if they will rot on the trees.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, left, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both New York Democrats, talk to reporters on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on Sept. 29, 2025, about the impending government shutdown.

Upset by Trump's sombrero video? Democrats, take a cue from Vance.

Rather than ignore the president's absurd digs (or, heaven forbid, just laugh it off), Democrats immediately pretended they were outraged.

A combination of file photos show U.S. President Donald Trump in the White House in Washington, DC, U.S. April 9, 2018 and former FBI Director James Comey on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., June 8, 2017.

Yes, Trump is targeting Comey. It's the new normal in politics.

I find it rather hard to believe that such a mundane case would be brought against anyone other than one of Trump's enemies.

Taylor Swift attends the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 2, 2025.

Allow me to nurture your outrage over the new Taylor Swift album

I'm here today to lay out why you should be furiously angry about Taylor Swift's new album 'Life of a Showgirl.'

Police stand guard during a protest against the Trump administration's immigration policies outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility in Portland, Oregon, on Sept. 1, 2025.

If Trump's troops need stuff to do come to Asheville, not Portland

On behalf of blue cities across the nation feeling left out of all this military training ground love, hear me out.

A person sits with the Washington Monument in the background, following a partial government shutdown in Washington, D.C., U.S., October 2, 2025.

I'm a Republican. A shutdown isn't what voters like me want.

I am a Republican, but the current Republican Party has shown no interest in working with, or even communicating with, the other side of the aisle.

President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hold a joint news conference at the White House in Washington, DC, on Sept. 29, 2025.

Trump's Gaza peace plan draws criticism, but it could still work

President Donald Trump announced a 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza. Can this proposal go the distance? There is reason for hope.

A farm in Randolph County, Indiana, has both wind and solar renewable energy in 2025.

Trump is wrong. 'All of the above' is America's best energy solution.

Americans should worry that while we're arguing about whether wind power works, China is cornering the market on tomorrow's energy technology.

All of the headlines, none of the chaos.
