Trump trails Biden in national poll. Sean Connery has died at 90. It's the weekend's biggest news.
2 days left, 93 million votes cast
Just two days from Nov. 3, at least 93 million people have already voted – about two-thirds of the total votes counted in the 2016 general election. USA TODAY is keeping track of what's happening as voters around the country cast ballots. The latest:
President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden are all over the map – seriously. As the presidential candidates make last-minute campaign stops in their last weekend ahead of the election, a new poll has Biden leading by 10 percentage points among registered voters. The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll is part of a final slew of surveys that find the former vice president ahead nationally and in most crucial battleground states. Still, the two are campaigning hard with Trump swinging through five must-win states Sunday and Biden his keeping focus on Pennsylvania with a stop in Philadelphia.
Dr. Fauci criticizes Trump's COVID-19 response, compliments Biden
Infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci drew ire from the White House Sunday after he complimented Joe Biden and disputed President Donald Trump's frequent assertion that the nation is "rounding the turn" on defeating COVID-19. "We're in for a whole lot of hurt. It's not a good situation," Fauci said in an interview with The Washington Post . In response, the White House on Sunday accused Fauci of inserting himself into the election. White House spokesman Judd Deere said Fauci should push for changes internally, but instead chose "to criticize the President in the media and make his political leanings known by praising the President's opponent – exactly what the American people have come to expect from The Swamp."
Sean Connery, who defined the role of "James Bond" for a generation, has died at age 90 . During his 007 tenure, Connery was the epitome of the suave but dangerous spy. Away from Bond, Connery received a breadth of roles and acting accolades. And the love for Connery, whom Steven Spielberg called one of "seven movie stars in the world," never dimmed even as he stepped away from acting. "He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words — 'The name's Bond... James Bond,'" producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement.
