Who shot the CEO?

A day after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot on a New York City sidewalk, police still have not found the shooter but did release photos of a person wanted for questioning.

What's happening now: Investigators were still working Thursday to identify and locate the shooter, who was last seen riding an e-bike into Central Park. Near the Hilton hotel where the attack occurred, investigators discovered a cellphone they are analyzing, as well as three bullet casings reportedly inscribed with three words: "deny," "defend" and "depose." Officials also released two surveillance images of a person wanted for questioning in connection with the deadly ambush. 👉 Follow for live updates.

Quake rocks Northern California

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck near the town of Petrolia in California on Thursday at 10:44 a.m. local time, generating a now-discontinued tsunami warning that stretched from southern Oregon to San Francisco.

What happened? The quake occurred near the sparsely populated northern coast of California, just offshore on the San Andreas fault, which runs along the coastline. Within two hours of the initial quake, the area had experienced 13 different aftershocks, ranging from 5.1 to 3.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. 👉 Here's everything we know.

Blowing snow, blustery winds, bitter cold: Gnarly weather grips the nation.

Bitcoin rockets past $100,000

The price of Bitcoin surpassed $100,000 for the first time Thursday amid expectations that Donald Trump will create a friendly regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies when he heads to the White House next year.

What's behind the boost? Excitement about a crypto-friendly administration has for months been pushing up Bitcoin, the world's biggest and best-known cryptocurrency. On Wednesday, Trump nominated Paul Atkins as chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, who is expected to bring market deregulation. 📈 We break it down.

It's giving Wendy's Frosty

Forget Brat Summer's neon green. And "Wicked's" watermelon-chic aesthetic is clearly so last year. Pantone's color of the year for 2025 has been announced and it's ... brown? The company announced Thursday morning that the shade for the coming year is the more demure Mocha Mousse, a serene, lightly pigmented color I'm guessing they couldn't name after a Frosty or a Mocha Frappuccino for copyright purposes. "The overriding theme as we went into looking for this year's color was this whole idea of harmony," Pantone Color Institute Vice President Laurie Pressman said, resulting in a light brown that can reflect both luxury and an alignment with the natural world. 🍫 More about the shade of the year.
