Timing of Cam Newton to Patriots couldn't be more perfect

Monday, June 29

Good morning! Today is Monday, June 29 and I'm Tim Gardner, here to get you ready for the week. 'Superman' Cam Newton has signed with the New England Patriots and the timing couldn't be more perfect. But at just about the same time, the Pats were also punished for filming the Bengals sideline last year. In baseball, we take a step back to help MLB fans remember what's what as the season closes in. Scroll down to see the day's biggest sports headlines, but first:

We asked why you fell in love with sports. These are those stories.

Today's memory is from USA TODAY Sports' Evan Hilbert:

I'm from Louisville and my family has had Kentucky football season tickets since Commonwealth Stadium opened. It was 1991, I was 7 years old and I was cold. But it was my first game.

Kentucky vs. Cincinnati.

I don't remember a single thing that happened until the end. The score was tied at 17 and Kentucky was lining up for a 53-yard field goal. Doug Pelfrey, who would later spend seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, unleashed a rocket that I remember thinking was too low. It wasn't. Kentucky won a meaningless game - and it was the absolute best.
