The checks are coming 💰

Some of you might receive a sweet gift from the government tomorrow: $$$. More than 80 million Americans are expected to receive coronavirus stimulus checks of up to $1,200 in their bank accounts Wednesday, according to the Treasury Department. The one-time payments are part of a $2 trillion recovery package designed to help us (and our poor, struggling economy) bounce back from the chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The bad news: Some of you won't get a check at all. If you earn more than $99,000 a year, sorry, you're out of luck. Many students aren't eligible for a stimulus check, either. Neither are some elderly and disabled people.

Some people in Michigan who checked their bank accounts online in the past few days have already spotted their $1,200. Every US state has been marred by COVID-19

The USA has reached another dark milestone in the coronavirus crisis: All 50 states have reported at least one COVID-19 death. After nearly two weeks as the only state without a fatality, Wyoming reported its first death Monday.

Thousands of health care workers sickened by the coronavirus

More than 9,000 health care workers across the USA have contracted COVID-19 as of last week, and at least 27 have died, according to a CDC report. That's probably an underestimate.

New saliva test could revolutionize COVID-19 testing

A new coronavirus saliva test that could dramatically accelerate the rate of collections and limit exposure to health care workers could be rolled out as soon as Wednesday. Saliva tests are far less invasive than methods that require you to shove a long swab pretty far up your nose.

U.S. coronavirus deaths and confirmed cases have edged lower for the third consecutive day (🙌). Monday's U.S. death toll was 1,509, down 48 from the previous day.

The Obama-Biden bromance is going strong

Former President Barack Obama, who remained neutral for the entirety of the 2020 Democratic primary, endorsed his former vice president, Joe Biden, on Tuesday. "I'm so proud to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States," Obama said in a video statement. "Choosing Joe to be my vice president was one of the best decisions I ever made, and he became a close friend. And I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a president right now."

Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner dies

New York Yankees co-owner Hank Steinbrenner died Tuesday after a lengthy illness. He was 63. The eldest son of former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and his brother Hal assumed co-ownership of the team in 2010 after the death of their father, who had essentially given the duo control of the team years when his health declined.
