Good morning, Daily Money subscribers, it's Nathan Bomey leading you into Thursday. Honestly, it feels like a day of remembrance – the one-year anniversary of the day many see as the beginning of the pandemic . Is it burned in your brain like it is mine? Let us hope, together, that it soon becomes a distant memory.

Having grown up in Michigan and written extensively about Detroit, I often like to remind myself of the City of Detroit's motto on days like today. Written in the aftermath of the Great Fire of 1805 that leveled the town, it says, "We hope for better things; it will rise from the ashes."
