Good morning, Daily Money team, it's Nathan wishing you a happy Wednesday. |
If you're like me, you've had enough of the word "shortage." But here we are again. |
Many gas stations in the Southeast, including North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia, are rapidly running out of fuel as panicked motorists rush to fill up. But unlike 2020's toilet paper debacle, this shortage has nothing to do with the pandemic. |
This stems from the Colonial Pipeline being down. More on that below. |

💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY: Here's the thing: There's probably enough fuel to go around if people were acting normally, according to energy analysts. Yes, the Colonial Pipeline has temporarily made it harder to transport gasoline from the Gulf Coast to the Southeast. But the big issue at the moment is that so many people are rushing to fill up that the stations simply can't keep up. I'll be writing about that this morning, so check this story for updates. |
📰 Here are more stories you'll want to see: |
1. Many Americans are flush with cash, but that's leading to worker shortages. (There's that word again.) |
2. Uncle Ben's is now Ben's Original. The rice, whose previous brand name was long criticized for perpetuating racist stereotypes, is arriving in stores with its new name and packaging. |
3. How far can you stretch retirement? Here's what life with $1 million in retirement savings would look like. |
4. The National Rifle Association bankruptcy is no more. A federal judge tossed the NRA out of bankruptcy, saying the case was not filed in good faith, in part because the organization has no financial problems. |
5. Did you hear about the FCC's $50 discount on your monthly broadband bill? Here's how to check to see if you qualify and how to apply. |
