💻 The Daily Money: My Gmail went haywire. Did yours?

In today's Daily Money newsletter, we have insights on Gmail's spam filter, the car-selling site Vroom and Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice plans. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

The Daily Money

Tuesday, August 24

Good morning, it's Nathan wishing you a happy Tuesday, if such a thing exists!

💻 Yesterday, a friend contacted me to ask why I hadn't responded to an invitation he had emailed me. I said I never received it.

That's when I realized it was stuck in my Gmail spam folder, along with 84 other legitimate emails from the last 30 days.

From the looks of it, I'm not alone.

I found a slew of other people who say Gmail has been sending important emails to spam in the last several days, including bank statements, event tickets, receipts and personal correspondence.

Bottom line: I'd strongly advise you to begin checking your spam folder regularly until further notice. And check out these tips on how to avoid this situation (although it's not foolproof).

On to our ...

💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY: Change is the only constant for retail. Yesterday we mentioned that Target is opening mini Disney Store shops within its big-box locations. Now, Disney Store is closing more of its standalone stores.

📰 And here are more stories you won't want to miss:

1. Have you ever considered buying a car on Vroom? Apparently, a lot of customers have had a bad experience with the service.

2. Can you ask your employer to mandate COVID vaccines? Our human resources expert weighs in.

3. Twitter blocked and labeled Donald Trump's tweets on election fraud. They spread anyway.

4. Hawaii Gov. David Ige is urging tourists to stay home amid a COVID surge"Now is not the time to visit the islands," he says.

5. Pumpkin Spice is back at Starbucks. Along with something called Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and Apple Crisp Macchiato.

We'll just pretend that the high today at USA TODAY headquarters near Washington, D.C. isn't 93 degrees.
