A Tesla whose battery caught fire on Oct. 11, 2022 after having been submerged during the flooding that occurred during Hurricane Ian. The car was located in the parking garage of a residential building in Collier County, Florida. Firefighters from the North Collier Fire Rescue District quickly removed it from the garage and extinguished the fire. It later reignited and was extinguished for a second time. After being submerged during floods, especially in conductive saltwater, electric vehicles can on rare occasions short out and catch fire. They should be towed, not driven, away from buildings and inspected by licensed technicians.
