Dubai International Airport served 41.6 million passengers the first half of this year – surpassing figures from the first six months of 2019 and about 50% above the same period last year. |
The Dubai airport has long been a reliable barometer for global aviation, though total airport traffic worldwide is still just short of pre-COVID levels, according to the International Air Transport Association. |
Passenger traffic at Dubai this year has been driven by trips to India, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Pakistan and Russia. |
Economic toll of Maui fires: At least $4B |
The Maui wildfires have caused at least $4 billion in losses, according to a report by Moody's Analytics. |
The wildfires destroyed more than 2,000 structures and resulted in $4 billion to $6 billion in property damage and business interruption. The town of Lahaina was hit hardest. At least three-quarters of the damage is believed to be covered by insurance. |
That total doesn't include another $1 billion in lost economic output. |
At least 115 people died in the Aug. 8 disaster and about 1,000 are still missing, according to Hawaii officials. |
