US condemns Israel hospital strike |
The Biden administration on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on a hospital compound in the Gaza Strip that ignited a nearby tent encampment where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge. |
What happened? At least four Palestinians were killed and dozens of others, including children, were injured in the Monday night attack, which set tents ablaze and reportedly sent survivors fleeing from one tent to another. Videos appeared to show one man being burned alive. |
What they're saying: "Israel has a responsibility to do more to avoid civilian casualties – and what happened here is horrifying, even if Hamas was operating near the hospital in an attempt to use civilians as human shields," said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the National Security Council. 👉 What we know about the strike. | People inspect the damage at the site of an Israeli strike on a tent camp sheltering displaced Palestinians in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. Eyes on 2 systems in the Atlantic | Is something brewing out there? After Florida was battered by two once-in-a-generation storms in a matter of weeks, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday that it is tracking two systems in the Atlantic basin. One of the storm systems, located off the westernmost coast of Africa, has a 60% chance of forming into a tropical depression by the end of the week as it moves westward over warmer waters. Another storm system is at risk for development in the western Caribbean over the next week. 🌀 See more about the systems. | The National Hurricane Center said Tuesday it is tracking an "area of low pressure" currently designated as Invest 94L that could soon strengthen into a tropical depression.
