Trump vs. the Federal Reserve | President Donald Trump is taking his feud with the Federal Reserve to the next level. Trump announced on Monday evening that he was firing Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, an unprecedented move that brings the president one step closer to shaping the balance of the Fed's seven-member board. Last week, he called on Cook to resign after the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte, who was appointed by Trump, accused her of claiming two of her mortgages as primary residences. The Department of Justice said it was looking into the matter. More on Trump's pressure campaign on the Fed. |
Cook's response: Cook said Tuesday the president lacked authority to oust her from the board of the central bank, and she's filing a lawsuit to challenge Trump's move. Cook's attorney, Abbe Lowell, said Trump has "no authority" to remove Cook, and that the president's attempt "lacks any factual or legal basis." Flag burning put to the test |
Hours after Trump signed an executive order directing his administration to prosecute American flag burnings "to the fullest extent possible," it was put to the test steps away from the Oval Office. |
What happened: The Secret Service detained a person in Lafayette Park, just outside of the White House, around 6:15 p.m. on Monday for "igniting an object." Several outlets identified the object as an American flag. The person was turned over to U.S. Park Police. The person, who CNN reported was a 20-year combat veteran, was arrested for violating the National Park Service's fire policy. Why the man said he burned the flag. |
Cracker Barrel's rebrand controversy | Make Cracker Barrel great again, or as Trump said this week, make it a "WINNER again." The president weighed in on the restaurant's controversial rebrand that includes a new, simplified logo that removed the man sitting in a chair and a wooden barrel. Trump in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday called on the company to return to their old logo and "admit a mistake based on customer response."
