Trump-backed candidate advances in Kentucky

Yesterday was packed with elections across six states for U.S. Senate, House and gubernatorial races, among other state-level elections.

Here are a few key takeaways:

President Donald Trump catapulted his least favorite House Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie out of office in another successful Make America Great Again purge ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
In Pennsylvania, the match-up in the state's competitive 7th Congressional District was set, pitting Democrat Bob Brooks against Trump-endorsed incumbent, Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in a race that might determine who controls the U.S. House next year.
Georgia Republican Rep. Mike Collins and political outsider Derek Dooley will battle in a runoff for that state's GOP Senate primary, the Associated Press and NBC News projected.

In less than a month, eight teams will start a week-long journey competing for the right to dogpile on top of each other, celebrating a  College World Series national championship. The current bracket, unsurprisingly, is heavy on SEC teams with 12 in the field and eight among the top 16. The Big Ten Baseball Tournament just kicked off.

The reality of being a Black coach

Out of 136 teams in major college football, only 13 have Black head coaches, down from 17 out of 120 teams in 2011. The SEC hasn’t had a non-interim Black head coach since 2020. To get a better understanding of this issue, USA TODAY Sports spoke with Black former NFL stars hired as head coaches at a lower-resource level of college football. They are trying to break through in a different way.
