Happy Thursday, booklovers!

We’re in celebrity memoir season, the late fall period where the “New Release” bookstore displays start to look like the IMDb homepage.

One notable read this fall is the late Eric Dane’s memoir, published nine months after the “Grey’s Anatomy” actor died after a battle with ALS. It’s a heartbreaking and touching read, filled with wisdom and advice that Dane leaves to his two teenage daughters.

I spoke with his wife , Rebecca Gayheart Dane, who told me she wants his fans to know him “beyond McSteamy.” She also shared how heartbroken she is that he isn’t here to promote the book himself: “I don't think any of us ever imagined that we would lose Eric before this book was finished,” she said.

From Christopher Lloyd to Lil Jon, there are plenty of celebrity books to dive into this fall. But here are three more I want to highlight:

📚“My Pressures” by Andy Serkis: This is one of the more unique celebrity memoirs I’ve ever read. Serkis told me he was originally hesitant to write a memoir, believing that his characters were far more interesting than his life. So he flipped the traditional format on its head and added a fantastical, autofiction flair. The result is a meta, introspective mediation featuring Serkis and his most iconic characters. And yes, Gollum has a lot to say.

📚 “And I Will Tell You Mine” by Sophia Bush: From “One Tree Hill” and activism to her recently revealed marriage to Ashlyn Harris, Bush is telling her story. But she doesn’t promise a tell-all. Rather than a “ledger of everything that happened,” Bush wrote to process and understand. In our conversation, she told me she scrapped about a hundred pages that were too personal to share in this memoir. But the exercise was still cathartic.

📚 “Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It” by Judi Dench: If you’ve ever wondered what it was like to plop down on the couch for a wide-ranging conversation with Dench, this memoir is your answer. Told in Q&A style with fellow actor Brendan O’Hea, Dench waxes about her garden, upbringing and favorite roles. There’s also plenty of ranting, and we noted these five hilarious things that she hates.
