The Daily Money: Pre-approval ≠ guaranteed mortgage

In today's Daily Money newsletter, we have insights on pre-approved mortgages, Dish and Sinclair, T-Mobile and a $100,000 LG TV. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

On to our ...

💡 INSIGHT OF THE DAY: Getting pre-approved for a home mortgage can help you land the house you want to buy. But it doesn't guarantee you'll get final approval for the loan. If your finances change between the time you secure the pre-approval and the time you buy the house, you could get denied.

📝 A STORY I WISH I WROTE: At one point, Waymo (the former Google self-driving car company) was widely considered the leader in autonomous vehicle technology. And it still might be. But the company's plan to retrofit vehicles made by Jaguar and Chrysler is running into roadblocks. Bloomberg reports that the company's retrofitting strategy has left it "without a viable path to mass production" and that traditional automakers might be best positioned to win the self-driving car race.

📰 And here are more stories you won't want to miss:

1. "It's all or nothing": Why a small pay increase can be a disaster for some working families who stand to lose benefits.

2. Should pets be allowed in the office? Our HR expert weighs in.

3. Talks continue: Dish and Sinclair have temporarily extended their contract while they work to hash out a dispute that could lead to customers losing channels.

4. T-Mobile confirmed a data breach: But it's currently unclear how many customers are affected.

5. A $100,000 TV?! Yep. LG is selling a widely anticipated, hand-built 65-inch TV that rolls up like paper.

📺 If you buy one, I'm inviting myself over to your house to watch the game.

Mortgage pre-approval is not the same as getting an actual mortgage, and if your financial circumstances change between the time you're pre-approved and the time you want to apply for a home loan, you may be denied.
3 things you need to understand about mortgage pre-approvals
You might assume that if a mortgage lender pre-approves you for a home loan, you're guaranteed that mortgage once you're ready. But that's not true.
