Public service announcement: There will be no newsletter Monday due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Good morning and happy Friday, Daily Money readers. Jayme Deerwester here with you, marking the halfway point of one of the dreariest months of the year.  And hey, at least it's no longer pitch dark at 4 p.m.!

Many parents might be looking for money from the child tax credit payment on or after Jan. 15 to help cover monthly expenses but they shouldn't bank on it.  What's more likely to show up is a tax letter from the Internal Revenue Service related to the child tax credit.

Don't throw it away. You might not be expecting to see a notice from the IRS but this letter is essential to help prepare your 1040 tax return for 2021 and possibly claim any more money that you're due.

On to today's ...

💡DAILY INSIGHT. 💡

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that workplaces with more than 100 employees will not have to comply with a federal requirement that workers get COVID-19 vaccinations or be tested weekly and wear masks. This means employers will be able to make their own decisions about how to keep employees safe.

But the lack of a federal mandate does put an onus on employers, said Columbia Business School professor and corporate strategy expert Rita McGrath. "With a federal mandate they could easily use the 'it's the law, folks' for both customers and employees who dislike the idea of vaccine mandates," she said. "Now, they have to create a policy – whether for or against – on their own and it can be polarizing."
