It all started with a 'perfect' phone call to Ukraine |
Trump's call with Ukraine set off a chain of events that led to a full House debate Wednesday on whether to impeach the president on two articles – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The House is currently debating the articles, and we expect the highly-anticipated vote on each of them later this evening. If the House approves the articles, Trump would be the third president in U.S. history to be impeached. He would then face a trial in the Republican-controlled Senate, which could vote to convict and remove Trump from office. Follow along LIVE: Our brilliant politics reporters are out and about in Washington covering the impeachment proceedings. Here's the latest. |

Missing volcano eruption victims are 'in the hands of the sea' |
Sad news from New Zealand today: The bodies of two people missing and presumed dead since a volcanic eruption killed 18 people may never be found, authorities said Wednesday. Deputy Police Commissioner Mike Clement said he was "deeply sorry" that the bodies of New Zealand tour guide Hayden Marshall-Inman, 40, and Australian tourist Winona Langford, 17, were likely swept into the Pacific Ocean and have not been recovered. One of the missing bodies was briefly detected by an air search, but it disappeared in dangerous swells before it could be extracted. "We haven't given up," Clement said. "But what I am here to do is to signal to everybody that we have reached a phase where we are literally in the hands of the sea." |

Are all the 'Star Wars' critics on the dark side? |
The force is not with the "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," according to critics. But who cares what they say, right? Right. Even if the film that ends the Skywalker saga is getting the worst reviews since "Phantom Menace." As reviews hit Wednesday morning, "Skywalker" faced a 57% positive Rotten Tomatoes rating and a deluge of criticism. USA TODAY film critic Brian Truitt called the "Star Wars" finale a "too safe landing of a massive pop-culture starship and a spectacular finale that misses a chance to forge something special." Yikes. Or as a porg would squawk: Coojhgdlfhh! Translation: Go see the movie anyway. |

Puppy kisses are cute, but they may be dangerous |
Uh oh, dog lovers. Apparently puppies – yes, irresistible puppies – have sickened at least 30 people with a drug-resistant bacteria, health officials say. The outbreak of a strain of the bacteria, commonly associated with food poisoning, has spread to 13 states and caused four hospitalizations, the CDC says. Most of those infected came in contact with puppies, and many were at pet stores. But there are ways you can still pet puppies safely: The agency advises washing your hands with soap and water after coming in contact with a puppy, handling its food or cleaning its waste. Plus, don't let dogs lick your mouth or wounds and take your doggo to the vet if it appears sick. |
