Your phone is listening
Your phone is listening in on your conversations. USDA removes fictional Wakanda from list of free trade partners. It's Thursday's news.

The USDA says Wakanda isn't actually a country. Impeachment is far from over. And the internet's made "the talk" a bit, well, complicated.

It's Ashley's co-workers with information on how to watch tonight's Democratic debate – and so much more of Thursday's news.

But first, are you dreaming of a white Christmas? Sorry, but early forecasts show no snow for most of the country. ❄️

You're not paranoid: Your phone really is keeping tabs

Here's a scenario: You pull out your phone, and you see an ad for AirPods. Wait a minute, you think. Didn't I just have a conversation about AirPods with my friend? Is my phone … listening to me? Plot twist: Yes, it probably is. When you use your default settings, everything you say may be recorded through your device's onboard microphone. Our phones routinely collect our voice data, store it in a distant server and use it for marketing purposes. Before you ask, yes, it's perfectly legal. That doesn't mean you have to like it. Here are a few ways to stop your devices from eavesdropping on you. The first step? Turning off some "always-on" microphone features:

Deactivate "Hey Siri": To turn off "Hey Siri," navigate to your iOS device's Settings, followed by Siri & Search. Then toggle Listen for "Hey Siri" to Off.
Disable "OK Google": If you use Google Assistant on Android, open the Google Assistant Settings. Say, "OK Google," or hold down the phone's home button, then tap the file drawer icon found on the upper right-hand corner, and tap the three-dot menu. Select More and choose Settings.

The House impeached President Trump. Now what?

A day after voting along mostly party lines to impeach President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, lawmakers returned to the Capitol as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced some uncertainty to the future timeline of the impeachment process. Here's who said what.

Pelosi wouldn't say when the articles of impeachment would be sent to the Senate for a trial that will determine whether Trump will be removed from office.
Trump accused Pelosi of being "afraid" of transmitting the articles to the Senate.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell described the House's impeachment articles as "shoddy ... sloppy … historically thin … weak … nonsensical and constitutionally incoherent."

Here are the Republican players in the Senate impeachment trial.

USDA removes 'Black Panther' nation from list of trade partners

Wakanda forever? The U.S. Department of Agriculture removed the fictional nation of Wakanda from its list of free trade partners , which accidentally included the kingdom featured in the Marvel film "Black Panther." How did Wakanda make the list? The USDA explained in an email that it was added during a test of the department's Tariff Tracker. According to the agency, Wakanda had been on the list since June and should have been removed after testing.

Affordable Care Act may be headed back to Supreme Court

A coalition of Democratic state attorneys general said they may ask the Supreme Court to save the Affordable Care Act – again. The officials said a third trip to the Supreme Court in eight years may be necessary after a ruling Wednesday in the federal appeals court struck down the law's requirement that most consumers buy health insurance. To get the case before the Supreme Court this term, the attorneys general would need to send a petition in the next few weeks and ask the justices for an expedited review. The court's docket usually is full by the middle of January.

It's time to talk about the online 🐦 and the 🐝

Teens are bombarded with graphic images of sex online, and it's not always what's considered normal sexual behavior. There is spanking. There is aggressive and misogynistic behavior. And there is choking, a high-risk practice that left a 19-year-old woman dead last month. Exposure to explicit sexual content through social media starts early for teenagers, when few have the maturity or education to understand that the images don't represent real life. What should parents do about it? Here's how you can talk to your kids about sex in the age of social media.
