On to our ... |
π‘ INSIGHT OF THE DAY: So who's open on Thanksgiving Day? Not Best Buy or Walmart, but CVS and Walgreens will welcome shoppers on the holiday. Most retailers have decided to stay shuttered on Thanksgiving, saving on labor costs at a time when a growing number of Americans are shopping online. Target recently announced that it will stay closed on Thanksgiving not just this year, but permanently. |
π‘ π‘ BONUS INSIGHT: A gift for Obama. Billionaire Jeff Bezos is giving the Obama Foundation $100 million, its largest gift ever, to honor the late civil rights icon John Lewis. The Plaza at the Obama Presidential Center will be named for Lewis, who was nearly beaten to death crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma during the 1960's and went on to serve decades in the U.S. Congress. |
π° And here are more stories you won't want to miss: |
1. If you're driving to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, you might want to leave early. AAA expects roughly 4 million more Americans to drive to their holiday destinations this Thanksgiving as compared to last year. The 48.3 million people projected to hit the road will be just 3% below the levels seen before the pandemic, when the spread of COVID-19 led to canceled gatherings as people hunkered down at home. |
2. Will I ever be able to buy another car? A global shortage of semiconductor chips is making it difficult to find or afford a new or used car. But there are ways to purchase a vehicle and save money. Here are a few tips. |
3. The tangled tail of the Buffalo Wing, and the Black chef who didn't get his due. The beloved snack is one of the east coast city's most famous creations, but the chef many Black residents credit with perfecting the recipe has often been left out of the story. |
4. Bad passengers may have to pay up. The Federal Aviation Administration has recommended $161,823 in civil penalties for eight fliers who allegedly engaged in "unruly behavior involving alcohol." The offenses included cursing at airline crew, smoking marijuana and sexually assaulting a flight attendant, according to the agency. |
