The Daily Money: The risks of buy now pay later, plus a 'jam-packed' Europe

Buy now pay later services have surged in popularity, but what are some of the risks? Also, expect long lines packed with tourists in Europe. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Welcome to Tuesday, Daily Money readers. It's Brett Molina back again, still recovering from last night's Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics. Big day if you're from the Bay, not so much for our friends in the northeast.

Look on the bright side, Boston: At least you're not me, a diehard Washington Wizards fan (yes, I am publicly admitting this).

But enough basketball. Let's talk money.

Beware buy now pay later?

You have likely seen a surge in apps and services offering the option to "buy now, pay later." They can be helpful for breaking up big purchases. In most cases, you don't pay interest and no credit check is required. However, consumer protection groups and experts warn that a lack of regulation could push users into debt without the safeguards of traditional lenders, reports USA TODAY's Katie Wedell.

"Buy now, pay later is the new version of the old layaway plan, but with modern, faster twists where the consumer gets the product immediately but gets the debt immediately, too," said Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra in announcing an inquiry into buy now pay later (BNPL) services.

Traveling to Europe? Read this.

Great news if you're headed to Europe soon: The euro is weaker, which means you can stretch those dollars even further if you have a big trip planned. However, because of the increased affordability and pent-up demand created in part by the COVID-19 pandemic, European travel has surged. Get ready for long lines.

Naturally, upon reading about travel in Europe, I think of National Lampoon's "European Vacation," with my favorite fictional traveling family, The Griswolds. And any time I think of the Vacation cinematic universe, I immediately think of the Lindsay Buckingham classic "Holiday Road."
