House vote on same-sex marriage puts lawmakers on the record

House Democrats and Republicans will vote Tuesday on protections for same-sex and interracial marriage in a political roll-call that indicates where each lawmaker stands on these issues ahead of November's elections. The vote is a direct reaction to the Supreme Court's conservative majority, which has expressed intentions to revisit widely-held laws protecting many Americans' rights, most recently overturning Roe v. Wade and the right to abortion.  Here's more on Justice Clarence Thomas' call to "reconsider" other rights established by the high court.

The House vote foreshadows how issues like abortion and same-sex marriage will top ballots this November.

A similar effect in the SenateSen. Ted Cruz said the Supreme Court was off base in 2015 for its ruling that legalized same-sex marriage and believes it should be reconsidered.

Funerals, calls for justice follow gun violence

A spree of gun violence in recent weeks has left communities across the nation reeling with grief – and demanding justice. In Uvalde, Texas, law enforcement's delayed response to the school gunman is coming under increasing scrutiny and criticism. But legal experts say it would likely be a difficult path in the criminal and civil justice systems to charge police officers for failing to take action after the shooting began. Read more
