Good morning and happy Tuesday, Daily Money readers. It's Jayme Deerwester back with you. |
I recently spent a few weeks in Charlotte. While I was there, I arranged to row with a club there (shoutout to Belmont Rowing Center ). The day of my first practice was a hot one and about halfway to the river, my phone told me it was overheating and was putting itself in a timeout. Well, its timing could not have been worse because I had never been there before and was counting on Waze to give me directions. Without them, I would literally miss my boat. |
I knew I had a few miles to go before my exit so I turned off the phone and held it up against my car's air conditioning vent for several minutes. It did the trick and I was able to reach the dock with a few minutes to spare. |
Want to avoid an episode like mine? My colleague Brett Molina has some tips to help you recognize when your phone is at risk of overheating and stop it from happening at the worst possible moment. These include unplugging the charger cable if it's plugged in, removing the case and moving the phone out of direct sunlight. |

Tuesday's Mega Millions jackpot has rose to a whopping $810 million, and it seems everyone wants to get in on the luck of the upcoming draw – including Raising Cane's founder and CEO Todd Graves. |
Raising Cane's announced Monday that Graves will purchase 50,000 Mega Millions tickets – one for each of the 50,000 employees at the fast food chicken restaurant. |
If any of the 50,000 tickets is the lucky winner, Graves said he will distribute the winnings throughout Raising Cane's, giving each employee the opportunity to win thousands of dollars, according to a news release. |

As soon as it was announced, our race to find the fastest transportation to JFK International Airport got me thinking about the "Top Gear" commuter race across London. I would have used that show's theme song – only it's instrumental. So I went with this track from Alabama instead: |
"It's that five o'clock 500, and I run it every day. Pick-up trucks, cars and buses, all in my way. We've got Darrel, we got Dale, Richard, Mark, Rusty and Jeff. Oh, the boss just dropped the green, we're on our way. It's that five o'clock 500 every day." |
