Happy Friday and National Chicken Wing Day, Daily Money readers! Jayme Deerwester back with you. Personally, I'm not a big wings lover – it's a lot of mess and a lot of work for a little food – but I respect the fact that I am in the minority here. So I've got a list directing you to all the freebies and discounts available today. |
Last week, we reported that some Walgreens allows pharmacists to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions if they have moral objections. It's part of the fallout from the overturn of Roe v. Wade, which eliminated the Constitutional right to abortion, returning decision-making power to states. |
Senators: Walgreens policy prioritizes employee morals over customer rights |
Now, Democratic Senators Tammy Duckworth and Richard Durbin, both from Illinois, are formally asking CEO Roz Brewer to revise the policy. |
"Your policy seemingly does not expressly respect the religious and moral beliefs of your customers who wish to buy legal drugs and contraceptives," the senators wrote. Nor are they they satisfied with the chain's contingency plan, which directs employees to refer the transaction to a co-worker. |
"Despite (Walgreens) policy's requirement that a customer's needs be met in a 'timely manner' even if a pharmacist has a moral objection, your policy reportedly has delayed timely access to medication," Duckworth and Durbin pointed out. |

Good news for Southwest passengers |
Southwest Airlines passengers now have a little extra flexibility when their plans go awry. The airline announced Thursday that the credits it provides when travelers need to cancel their tickets will no longer expire, no matter what kind of ticket they purchased. |
"'Flight credits don't expire' aligns with the boldness of a philosophy to give our customers definitive simplicity and ease in travel, just like 'bags fly free,' just like 'no change fees,' just like 'points don't expire – they're a first-in-our-industry combination of differentiators that only Southwest offers," Southwest CEO Bob Jordan said in a statement. |
Customers don't have to do anything to take advantage of the new policy, Ryan Green, Southwest's chief marketing officer told USA TODAY. |
"The only thing that they need to know is they don't need to take any action. They don't need to do anything. We are taking care of this for them in the background," he said. |
🎧 Mood music 🎧 |
I kinda had to go with Lankybox's musical ode to the chicken wing today: |
"Chicken wing, thinking I'm about to eat everything. I'ma go nuts for these donuts with all of that frosting. And I don't know how, but whenever I look around, all I see is food and my stomach just starts to growl!" |
