The Daily Money: When to hit the road for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is approaching. Make sure to plan ahead especially if you're driving so you don't get caught in traffic ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

TGIF! This reporter cannot wait until Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday.

But for now here are the top money stories.

Another layer of drama was added to the FTX scandal via a Vox reporter's DMs with former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. He told the reporter that the collapsed crypto company shouldn't have filed for bankruptcy protection and criticized regulators.

The public and rapid unraveling of FTX started earlier this month when news site CoinDesk reported Almeda Research had a balance sheet full of FTT, the cryptocurrency issued by FTX.

The revelation spooked clients and inventors. Rival exchange Binance said it would sell its holdings of FTX tokens and pulled out of an agreement to take over the company.

FTX filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 11.

How to avoid Thanksgiving traffic

No one wants to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic on their way to a Thanksgiving meal and be stuck with  cold turkey. That's why it's important to plan ahead.

As usual, the worst traffic will be on Wednesday and Thanksgiving Day itself, according to recent data by AAA and INRIX. On Wednesday, traffic will peak between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m., as well as from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday as people prepare for dinner.

When returning home over the weekend from Friday to Sunday, peak traffic times will be between 4-8 p.m.

The key to avoiding heavy traffic will be to plan your drive accordingly. According to Google Maps data from last year, the best time to start your Thanksgiving drive is Monday night after 8 p.m.
