Good morning, readers! Next Tuesday, Nov. 8, is an important day in America: the midterm elections. I'm John Riley, and my goal for The Short List Weekend Edition✨ is to help you make your choice on Election Day (if you haven't already cast your ballot via advance voting.) |
What are the midterm elections? |
The midterms arrive halfway into the president's first four years. The presidency is not on the ballot, but all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and about a third of the Senate seats are as well. Here's what to know about the midterms and why they're important.🤔 |
All about voting |
If you're hoping to cast your ballot in person but wonder if your work schedule will get in the way, you should read this. |

Here's when the polls close in all 50 states.🗳️ |
House, Senate up for grabs |
Democrats are pushing to hold or expand their slim majority in the 50-50 Senate, which they control by virtue of Vice President Kamala Harris' ability to cast tie-breaking votes as president of the Senate. Here's every seat up for grabs, and a deeper look at the eight most important races. |
|
Analysts have a clearer forecast of the results in the House: It's not good news for Democrats hoping to retain their narrow majority. A USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll at the end of October found that on a generic ballot, voters surveyed now support the Republican congressional candidate over the Democratic one by 49%-45%.🗹 |
