TGIF, Daily Money readers! It's Bailey Schulz here to bring you Friday's headlines. |
First off: the jobs report. Hiring remained sturdy in November with U.S. employers adding 263,000 jobs, beating estimates. |
While the numbers may seem like good news for job seekers, it'll likely mean the Federal Reserve will continue aggressive interest rate hikes to cool inflation. The strong job growth could also make a near-term recession more likely. Most economists forecast a recession next year. |
Stocks opened lower following the release of the report. |
Relief at the pump |
Americans are paying less for gas than they did before Russia invaded Ukraine in February. The national average for a regular gallon of gas was $3.45 on Friday, compared to the record high of $5.02 in June, according to AAA. |
While the factors causing the prices to ease aren't all positive (experts point to recession fears, COVID-19 protests in China and weaker U.S. demand) it's a bit of relief for Americans ahead of the holiday travel season. |
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says prices may keep going down and could even fall below $3 by Christmas. |

🚨 Recall alert 🚨 |
Children's clothing sets sold at major retail stores like TJ Maxx, Ross and Amazon have been recalled for lead paint. The recall includes about 87,000 Disney-themed clothing sets featuring characters like Minnie Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and Baby Yoda. |
Bentex, the manufacturer, says customers should immediately stop using the clothing. |
