Fed pauses interest rate hikes but more likely | And then the Fed rested. After its sharpest flurry of interest rate hikes in four decades, the Federal Reserve held its key rate steady Wednesday but signaled two more increases are likely this year as officials continue to battle high inflation. That's more projected hikes than financial markets and many economists anticipated. For now, the benchmark rate will remain at a range of 5% to 5.25% after a streak of 10 consecutive hikes. π Will rates keep going up? SEC, Big Ten each top $2 billion in athletic department revenue | Schools in the SEC and Big Ten have proven that college sports are back and raking in the cash. The conferences' earnings show a significant, expected rebound from 2021 amounts that were heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, a USA TODAY Sports analysis shows. The figures also expose disparities that already exist between those two conferences and the rest of their Power Five peers – gaps that seem almost certain to grow as big-name schools move to the SEC and Big Ten in the coming years. π How some schools are at a disadvantage. |

GOP rivals pounce after Trump's second indictment | Most Republican candidates had been reluctant to discuss the indictment accusing former President Donald Trump of hoarding sensitive classified documents – probably fearful of alienating Trump's large political base. But as more details emerge, and despite Trump's aggressive denials, that's changing by the day. Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence – who criticized the indictment as recently as Saturday – has joined the growing list of 2024 Republican candidates who are now starting to attack him over the criminal charges he's facing. Other notables who have also stepped up criticism of Trump include former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott. π Take a look at who's saying what. | President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence at the White House in 2020. The two are now competing for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Vegas Golden Knights score first Stanley Cup title | From the very start, Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley's goal was to win a Stanley Cup by the team's sixth season. His dream came true on Tuesday night when the Golden Knights routed the Florida Panthers 9-3 to capture the franchise's first NHL championship. The Panthers had pulled off upset after upset to reach the Final but fell to the deep Golden Knights, who went efficiently through the playoffs, winning their title in 22 games. Captain Mark Stone scored a hat trick, the first in a Stanley Cup Final since 1996, and the Golden Knights pulled away in a dominant second period. π How the game played out. | The Vegas Golden Knights with the Stanley Cup after defeating the Florida Panthers 9-3 at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.
