Feds say new rule for automakers could save hundreds of lives

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that requiring better automatic emergency braking systems on all cars would cut fatalities.

Investigators in the U.S. and Canada on Thursday are looking into whether the death of a Canadian driver was caused by a faulty air bag inflator made by ARC Automotive Inc. Authorities say the driver was killed when an ARC inflator ruptured in a crash in Newfoundland and sent shrapnel into a 2009 Hyundai Elantra.
