Good morning!🙋🏼‍♀️ I'm Nicole Fallert. Do kids still trick or treat?

Quick look at Tuesday's news:

Federal food aid will not be available on Nov. 1.
Shohei Ohtani is taking this World Series into his own hands.
Her visit to America's Halloween capital found love rather than jumpscares.

Over 40 million Americans at risk of losing food benefits

Millions of Americans who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the  Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC, could be left scrambling for food come November.

The latest: The U.S. Department of Agriculture has warned for weeks that food assistance could be in jeopardy if the shutdown continues. But a prominent new message on its website Monday said no benefits will be issued on Nov. 1.

Food banks are bracing. George Matysik, executive director of Share Food Program, a Philadelphia food bank, told USA TODAY that food banks are already squeezed by federal funding cuts.
No back-up money? The USDA said in a memo first reported by Axios that it will not use a $5 billion contingency fund to maintain food assistance during the shutdown, claiming it's intended for events such as natural disasters.
What can SNAP and WIC recipients do? Check with your individual state agency to find other food assistance for November if needed.

What a game!

Shohei Ohtani had the greatest World Series performance in Los Angeles Dodgers' history Monday, hitting two home runs and two doubles, driving in three runs, scoring another three, reaching base a record nine times with four intentional walks, and then watching first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off homer in the 18th  inning of the Dodgers' 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3 of the World Series. Last night tied for longest game in World Series history at 18 innings.

She grew up in the Halloween capital of the world

'From the Midwest nice interactions I had with locals, it was clear to me that Anokians didn't pride themselves on playing pretend behind masks or attracting tourists. Their spirit came from their drive to be with one another, just the way they were.'

~ USA TODAY Wellness fellow Sam Woodward, who grew up in Anoka, Minnesota, the Minneapolis suburb dubbed the "Halloween capital of the world." She went home for the candy — but found community.
