After Venezuela strikes, Greenland on edge |
One of Trump's closest aides, Stephen Miller, questioned Denmark's claim on Greenland in an interview yesterday and suggested the U.S. could seize it without pushback. The day prior, The Atlantic published an article with Trump saying the U.S. needs Greenland "for defense," while other administration officials and MAGA allies (including Miller's commentator wife) issued similar threats about a U.S. takeover of the Arctic island. Several European leaders today struck back in a joint statement, saying that Greenland "belongs to its people." The seven nations that signed the statement, all NATO members and including Denmark, also reaffirmed their commitment to sovereignty and territorial integrity – an issue at the top of many foreign leaders' minds after the U.S. capture of Venezuela's leader in Caracas over the weekend. | A man walks as a Danish flag flutters next to a statue of Hans Egede, a Danish-Norwegian missionary, in Nuuk, Greenland, on March 9, 2025. The removal of the measure comes after a chorus of outrage from activists , including those aligned with the administration's "Make America Healthy Again" agenda, as well as other GOP members.
