Woman shot, killed by immigration agent in Minneapolis |
A 37-year-old woman was killed in a shooting by an immigration agent Wednesday in Minneapolis , but federal officials and local officials offered different accounts of what happened and the city's mayor had strong words for federal agents who've descended on the state in what's been called the largest immigration operation to date. | The Department of Homeland Security said the agent "fired defensive shots" after the woman allegedly attempted to ram officers with her vehicle. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called that account "bull---," saying video showed the woman driving away from agents, not toward them. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the shooting "totally avoidable" and urged calm while blasting the Trump administration for its immigration enforcement actions in the state. | Members of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement stand guard after a driver of a vehicle was shot in Minneapolis, on January 7, 2026.
