President Donald Trump didn't ask anyone's permission to take military action against Venezuela. He just did it, and it helps nobody.

President Donald Trump, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, addresses reporters at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, on Jan. 3, 2026, after a U.S. strike on Venezuela where President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured. Enhanced premium tax credits for enrollees in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace expired Dec. 31, 2025. The subsidies were first given to ACA enrollees in 2021 as a temporary measure to help Americans get through the COVID-19 pandemic. Democratic leaders in power at the time then extended them. According to The Urban Institute, in 2026 the cost of buying a federal government marketplace plan will be more than four times greater for low-income people. For middle-income people, costs will typically more than double.
