Good morning! It’s Friday, Oct. 23, and today you should know: NASA will discuss the status of moon missions. The iPhone Duo is now available. Thousands of pet meds have been recalled. And the World Series begins!

I’m Mallorie Sullivan, and this is the last call to send me your questions about the midterm elections! I'll be giving them to our Politics team to answer in an upcoming edition. Now, let's jump in.

🗳️ The ads everyone is talking about

You may have heard quite a bit this week about Ohio’s governor’s race, which landed in the national spotlight after Vivek Ramaswamy aired a deeply personal campaign ad featuring rival Amy Acton’s estranged mother. The ad drew criticism from politicians in both parties and support from other prominent Republicans, including President Trump, joining several others that have drawn attention this election season.

• On a related note: Name-calling and insults are surging in the midterms.

📰 More news to know now

• Duchess Meghan "deeply distressed" as police investigate her dad over alleged child sex abuse images.
• The Supreme Court sided with the GOP in a fight over student IDs at the polls.
• A brawl broke out in Albania's parliament amid nationwide student protests.
• A teacher injured in the Oregon school shooting said she pretended to be dead.
• New York City approved a ban on horse-drawn carriages Thursday.

✈️ Before you book that 'refundable' trip

Make sure you read the fine print. While the word "refundable" used to mean you'd get your money back, it now means something closer to you might get some of your money back, under specific conditions, minus fees you weren't clearly told about, after a fight that could consume months of your life.  Here's how you can avoid a costly surprise.

• Also: A new flight delay rule could mean fewer perks when things go wrong.
• What airlines can you count on? These the most reliable US carriers, ranked.

👀 What else I'm reading today

• The "Monday Night Football" announcer drama keeps getting juicier.
• Airbnb is limiting checkout chores. Here's what you won't have to do.
• The artist behind that Kelly Clarkson bird has entered the chat.
• LeBron James had some words for a Knicks fan on Wednesday night.
• The team behind the dire wolf has a new project: military dogs.

☝️ One more thing

World Series Commissioner's Trophy

• The World Series begins today! This marks the Brewers' first appearance in the Fall Classic since 1982, while the Rays have gotten this far twice in the past 16 years. Is their third time a charm, or will the Brewers sweep the series? Here's who's favored to win, and a few more stories to tide you over until this evening.
• The World Series is getting a small-market showdown. Does size matter?
• The Rays will always do it their way. It's led them to another World Series.
• The Brewers' manager got a call from an unknown number. It was The Boss.

As always, keep scrolling for more news. Here’s your crossword! I’ll see you on Monday 👋
