United Airlines revamps policies after flight fiasco, reaches settlement with passenger

United Airlines doesn't want another situation like what happened to David Dao, the passenger bloodied while being pulled off a flight earlier this month. So the airline announced Thursday 10 changes  as a result of the April 9 incident, including not using law enforcement to remove passengers unless it's a matter of safety and security. Other changes include raising compensation up to $10,000 for customers volunteering to take a later flight, launching efforts to reduce overbookings and more training for employees. Also on Thursday, Dao reached an "amicable settlement" with the airline.

States, cities say no to, 'What's your salary?' question

Is a woman's salary holding her back from earning more? Women advocates argue basing future salaries on past wages can perpetuate the gender pay gap. That's why many states and cities are banning the question about current or most recent salaries in job interviews. But the effort to beat back the disparity, which shows women earn 80 cents for every $1 earned by a man, has its opposition. Company owners argue it's an intrusion on their businesses.

Two more Americans killed in action in Afghanistan

For more than 15 years, U.S. troops have been dying in Afghanistan. On Thursday the Pentagon confirmed that two more servicemen  were added to the list of those killed in action there. Another service member was wounded during a special operations raid against the Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan. The Pentagon did not release the names of those killed and has not yet released details of the incident. There have now been 2,251 U.S. military fatalities in Afghanistan since Oct. 1, 2001, according to the Department of Defense.

Put down the ice cream; there may be a cure for your broken heart

Pause the "All By Myself" and listen up. When it comes to moving on from an ex, just believing that you are doing something to get over your ex may help mend your broken heart, according to a new study. University of Colorado-Boulder researchers  tested the placebo effect on those who had recently been through "unwanted romantic breakups." Participants who believed they were receiving a nasal spray that reduced emotional pain reported less physical pain during the experiment and felt better emotionally. Bottom line: Just doing something that "gives you hope may have an impact" on your heartache.

Bill Cosby is completely blind

After two years, we finally heard from comedian Bill Cosby, who used an interview with the National Newspaper Publishers Association to reveal that he's now completely blind. Cosby said he woke up one morning and told his wife Camille, "I can't see." During performances, he'd rehearse the walk to his stage chair hours before the show.  Cosby is scheduled to stand trial in June on a sexual assault charge. He is accused of drugging and molesting a Temple University employee.
