The search for the alleged Waffle House shooter is over

Nashville police arrested Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking, 29, capping an intense search more than a day after four people were killed at the restaurant in Antioch, Tenn. Authorities are investigating whether Reinking's father broke gun laws by returning weapons to his son after they had been taken by law enforcement. Travis Reinking was arrested in 2017 near the White House when he had identified himself as a "sovereign citizen," which the FBI says is a term used by "anti-government extremists."

Her Royal Highness does it again

Duchess Kate of Cambridge gave birth Monday to her third royal baby, a boy, a healthy 8 pounds, 7 ounces. She appeared on the hospital steps, looking better than most of us on our wedding day (moms know the team that must've been assembled to pull that off). More highlights:

  • First call: As with previous royal births, great-granny the queen was first to be notified.
  • That wave, tho. The youngest prince was adorable in his white knit cap and blankie, but Princess Charlotte stole our hearts, waving to people like the star she is. Big brother Prince George, on the other hand, ignored everybody.
  • Making history. The newest prince is historic, in that he won't be booting his sister out of the line of succession. Shortly before George was born, British law changed to give royal daughters the same rights as sons.
  • Sorry, Harry. The newest little royal will displace Uncle Prince Harry, 33, in succession. Baby prince will be fifth in line, booting Harry to sixth
  • What's in a name? No name has been announced yet, but the favorites of British bookmakers are Albert, Arthur, Frederick, James or Philip.
  • A medical marvel

A U.S. military sergeant injured in an IED blast in Afghanistan received the world's first full penis and scrotum transplant , Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine announced Monday. The veteran should regain urinary function by the end of the week and sexual function within six months, doctors said. Injuries or cancer affecting the genitals can be devastating to a person's self-esteem, but surgery like this can transform the lives of "warriors," said W. P. Andrew Lee, who directs the hospital's Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. The hospital does not plan to use the procedure for gender reassignment surgery.

Sugar or sweetener? How about neither?

Maybe switching to diet soda or zero-calorie sweetener in our coffee isn't so wise. A study suggests artificial sweeteners are linked to obesity and diabetes. Researchers fed groups of rats diets that included sugar or sweeteners, and found both could contribute to negative effects on your health. A study last year linked diet soda to an increased risk of stroke and dementia. Nutritionists recommend honey as a natural sweetener.

If you're reading this, the world didn't end

Based on the findings of conspiracy theorist David Meade, the world was "set to be destroyed" on April 23. Whoops. Now we can go back to worrying about who wins the NBA Finals and who might die in Avengers: Infinity War.
