Happy Monday, folks. It's Rebecca Morin. It's a rainy, bleak day here in Washington D.C., but I'm hoping for sunnier weather.

Immigrant women detail what it's like in ICE detention

For hours, immigrant women were chained on a prison bus without access to food, water or a toilet. More than two dozen women were packed like sardines into a small holding cell. Those are just some of the conditions that four immigrant women described when discussing their time at Krome North Processing Center in Miami – a detention center reserved for men. While government investigators have repeatedly found serious problems in immigration detention centers around the country under both Republican and Democratic administrations, the women's allegations at Krome suggest detention conditions have deteriorated rapidly as President Donald Trump 's administration works to deliver on the president's promises for tougher immigration enforcement. Here's what ICE detention conditions are like.

Trump admin to end immigration program for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans

The immigrant women's stories come as Trump has ramped up immigration enforcement, including recent deportation flights of Venezuelans who the Trump administration says belong to the crime gang Tren de Araragua. A federal judge on Monday refused to withdraw a block on Trump's deportation flights under the Alien Enemies Act. See what the judge ordered.

Never too late? Trump invites Kansas City Chiefs to White House to celebrate 2020 Super Bowl

No, they did not with the 2025 Super Bowl. But five years after their pandemic-era victory, the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl may get their day in the spotlight just the same. President Donald Trump said he planned to invite the City Chiefs to celebrate their 2020 Super Bowl 54 victory. The team was unable to visit the White House to celebrate their win due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which began spreading in various U.S. cities in the weeks following their Super Bowl win. Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers for its second championship in franchise history after the 2019 season. Why Trump wants to celebrate the Chiefs.

You asked, On Politics answers: Secret service for presidents' relatives

President Donald Trump recently announced he was revoking Secret Service protection of former President Joe Biden's two adult children, Hunter and Ashley Biden. One reader asked who authorized the Secret Service detail for Biden's two children.

Under federal law, former presidents and their spouses receive lifelong Secret Service protection. Protection to immediate family members over the age of 16 ends once the president is out of office. However, outgoing presidents can extend protection to those who might not be eligible for up to six months after they leave office – something Biden did for his children. It's common for former presidents to extend Secret Service protection to some members of their family. After Trump's first term ended, Secret Service protection was extended to his four adult children and their spouses for six months, according to ABC News. Both former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush had extended protection for their families for a short period as well.
