The Daily Money: A 2023 recession could hit the West and Northeast hardest

While the entire country would feel the pain of a recession, some regions would be harder hit than others. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Happy Thursday! It's Amanda PΓ©rez Pintado with your Daily Money headlines.

Recession fears loom large. And even though the entire country would feel its effects, some regions would be hit harder than others, experts say.

The West would most likely be hit the hardest, while the Northeast and South would compete for second place, economists say.

The West is already feeling the pain of both the housing and technology slumps.

Tech companies like Amazon and Meta cut thousands of jobs in 2022, and the wave of layoffs has continued into 2023. Meanwhile, areas like the Mountain West, which rode the housing boom, are seeing people leave as home prices and mortgage rates increase.

How employers can help mitigate workplace violence risks

Authorities say the Half Moon Bay shootings that left seven dead Monday were likely a case of workplace violence.

Even though we may not be able to predict a mass shooting, there are steps an employer can take to help mitigate the risks of workplace violence.

"OSHA doesn't mandate you have workplace gun shooting safety trainings in most workplaces today, but that might be something you as a workplace decide you want to do if you think there's a risk," said Andy Challenger, senior vice president of global outplacement and executive coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.
