Former President Jimmy Carter enters hospice care

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter entered hospice care at age 98 on Saturday, the Carter Center said. The Nobel Peace Prize winner was diagnosed with cancer – a form of melanoma that spread to his brain – in 2015. After several short hospital stays, he has decided to spend time with his family at home receiving hospice care. "They are at peace and – as always – their home is full of love," former Georgia state Sen. Jason Carter, Carter's grandson, said.

Secretary of State Blinken meets with top Chinese diplomat

In the the first face-to-face meeting that senior U.S. and Chinese officials have had since the Biden administration shot down a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina on Feb. 4, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with China's top diplomat Wang Yi on Saturday, according to State Department spokesperson Ned Price. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. Blinken "directly spoke to the unacceptable violation of U.S. sovereignty and international law by the PRC high-altitude surveillance balloon in U.S. territorial airspace, underscoring that this irresponsible act must never again occur."

Mac McClung steals the show at NBA Dunk Contest

Even NBA fans could be forgiven if they weren't familiar with Mac McClung before this weekend. After all, he hasn't played a league game this season, and only appeared in two NBA games in his career. But the 24-year-old member of the G League's Delaware Blue Coats put on a show to win Saturday's Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star Weekend. For his first dunk, McClung took the ball out of the hands of a man who was sitting on another squatting man's shoulders, leaping over both to stuff the ball home after touching it off the backboard. He then closed out the final round with a spinning reverse jam, followed by Vince Carter's iconic "It's over" motion.

US accuses Russia of crimes against humanity in Ukraine

The United States is formally accusing Russia of committing crimes against humanity in Ukraine as the country's brutal assault on its neighboring nation approaches its one-year mark, Vice President Kamala Harris announced Saturday. The vice president named gruesome acts of torture and rape, "execution-style" killings and the forcible deportation of thousand as evidence of a "widespread and systemic attack against a civilian population." The U.S. formally accused Russia of committing war crimes in March of last year, but asserting that the nation has perpetrated crimes against humanity goes a step further. "In the case of Russia's actions in Ukraine, we have examined the evidence, we know the legal standards, and there is no doubt," Harris said in an address at the Munich Security Conference.

One dead, 10 injured in Memphis shootings

One person died and 10 were injured early Sunday after two shootings at and near a Memphis nightclub , police said. No suspect has been arrested in the shootings that police say appear to be connected. Five people were taken to local hospitals in critical condition and another five arrived in "non-critical" condition by private vehicles, the Memphis Police Department said. Police arrived at the Live Lounge nightclub before 1 a.m. and found two victims. While at the nightclub, they learned about shooting victims at a nearby location where they found one person dead and three others who were badly injured.
