A Southwest Airlines executive told Congress this morning he was "deeply sorry" for nearly 17,000 flight cancelations that left many passengers stranded and disrupted holiday air travel in late December. |
Chief Operating Officer Andrew Watterson told the Senate Commerce committee that weather-related disruptions "overwhelmed our crew scheduling processes and technology." |
A pilots union official said pilots have been warning about the airlines' inadequate crew scheduling technology for years. |
Bed Bath & Beyond to close more stores |
Bed Bath & Beyond said this week it plans to close another 150 stores and raise more than $1 billion in a stock offering as part of an effort to avoid bankruptcy. |
The chain said the money from the share sale will be used to repay outstanding debt. Last month, the company said it defaulted on its credit line with JPMorgan. |
The company's shared close down 13% Wednesday at $2.61. |

Chick-fil-A says it will debut a new cauliflower sandwich Monday in Denver, Colorado; Charleston, South Carolina; and Greensboro, North Carolina. |
The chain's first plant-based entree only looks like a chicken sandwich. The cauliflower is fileted and marinated in a mild buffalo-style sauce, hand breaded and pressure cooked to a crispy finish. |
