Nearly 300 companies have laid off about 95,000 workers so far this year, according to layoffs.fyi, a blistering pace that would equate to more than 900,000 cuts in 2023 -- nearly six times last year's total. |
But things aren't as bleak as they look for the industry. As Americans spent more time at home early in the pandemic, they bought lots of computers, gaming systems and smartphones and tech companies went on a hiring spree. Now that sales have come back to earth, they're letting go of some of those workers. |
